Oregon Lottery - When to Play
Use this guide to determine when to play a specific game in the Oregon lottery.  This page focuses on the odds of playing any particular game and what I call the "Expected Value" to determine when is the best time to play.
*Prize values are used from a sample jackpot of $194,000
Based on the odds of playing the Powerball, the Jackpot should be at least $161,134,919 before you consider playing.  I do not recommend playing Mega Millions games because the odds are far too astronomical for you to affect. Note that you can also add to your potential winnings by choosing the powerplay option but this does not increase your odds of winning.
Although the state of oregon does not agree to any specific payouts (payouts depend on the amount of tickets sold and number of winners), this is still one of the best games to play in the country.  With jackpot odds of 1 in just over 6 Million, you should buy a ticket when the jackpot reaches 4 Million.
Win for Life - Play (if you are young)
Win for life is a fascinating game and I really wish they had a version of it in Ohio.  This game gives you many different ways to win many different prizes.  If the odds seem way too good to be true it is because they are.  This game costs 2$ per play, thus reducing the Dollar value per Odd.  The only way the state loses money on this game is if the winner of the jackpot manages to live for the next 33 years.  So if you are elderly or have a life threatening disease, please don't play this game.  But it is perfect for young people.  Here are the odds.
